SESSION SEVEN - THE LEGACY OF THE HOLOCAUST

Research Assignment Conversation: Each participant will present their written impressions of the Palestinians or Israelis in the Diaspora they met and interviewed through their assignment research.

Discussion Topic: How the Nazi Holocaust has affected Israeli history, policy, and public opinion over contemporary history. And how that policy has affected Palestinian/Israeli relations. The discussion will trace the history from the establishment of the State of Israel till today.  What comparisons and parallels, if any, can be made between the treatment of the Jewish population by the Nazis during the Holocaust and the treatment of Palestinians by the Israeli government today. Scholars and activists will be invited to join this discussion. 

Research Assignment: Search out one piece of Jewish poetry written during the Nazi era and one piece of poetry from Palestine today. In an essay compare and contrast them. Do the same with a piece of Jewish artwork created during the Nazi era and a piece of Palestinian artwork recently created in the West Bank or Gaza
